This past week, the Lincoln Health Foundation had their annual meeting in the Lincoln Parish Libraryʼs meeting room to review their efforts over the past year.
At the meeting, members of the community shared the impact the LHF is having in the community of Ruston and surrounding areas and how certain programs implemented this past year have benefited the community.
From Life Choices to Lincoln Parish Schools, the LHF has provided grants and funds to help these places grow and foster a more active community.
Through the testimonials of LHF grantees Danny Bell, Kathleen Richard, Leonel Lacayo and Janet Durden, the effect of the LHF on Lincoln Parish is evident.
The LHF has provided various things like an elementary school counselor for Ruston Elementary, something which the state does not feel the need to provide funding for, and a mentoring program for mothers called MOMs.
It is through this care that Lincoln Parish is lucky to have something like the LHF, which strives to provide the area with healthier options and more opportunities.
By co-partnering with United Way, the LHF has been very instrumental in providing mental health services for the childrenʼs home and several programs at the Boyʼs and Girlʼs Club.
They have also provided several initiatives to have healthier foods in our schools and more nurses and medical care for students.
Due to the LHFʼs efforts, the children in our schools are being cared for in an exceptional way.
These efforts are making a difference in childrensʼ lives and the people in our community, and we should be grateful to the LHF and the exceptional members of our community.
The people who serve on the committees that comprise the LHF do not see these programs as an ideal but as an actuality that can make a difference.
In Lacayoʼs presentation on what The Health Hut, a mobile health clinic, is doing in the community, he said that establishing continuity with the patients is one of the best things about it.
This gives people in our area a reassurance of a continued presence in our community working for the better interests of all in this parish.
The LHF continues to be a vital and important part of this area and we appreciate their dedication and service to our thriving community.
